Barre VT – Finance Director

The Town of Barre, VT (pop. 7,924) is accepting applications for the new position of Director of Finance.  The Town of Barre is restructuring.  The current elected Town Clerk-Treasurer position will be changed to elected Town Clerk.  The Director of Finance will assume responsibilities for most financial-related matters.  The Selectboard will appoint a part-time Town Treasurer.  The new Director of Finance position will be available mid-February, 2021 allowing the Director to work with the current Town Clerk-Treasurer until mid-May, when her elected term expires.  The Director will oversee the Finance Office, including supervising some staff.  A sample of the Office’s/Director’s responsibilities includes: preparing financial statements for audit purposes and assisting the auditors, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, managing accounting system, and managing investments.  The complete job description is available here.  Click on Employment with Barre Town.  Minimum qualifications are: a) Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business or public administration, or closely related field; b) five years related work experience in accounting and managing mid-level computerized accounting applications; c) five years related work in payroll administration.  Starting salary $70,000 – $75,000 commensurate with experience.  Strong benefits package provided.  Resumes and cover letter will be submitted to the Town Manager’s Office, P.O.
